This holiday season we’re changing it up and focusing exclusively on giving back to our elders. When we heard that there were men and women who have were dropped off at a nursing home to never be visited again we were in SHOCK! But sadly it’s true and we’re here to let our elders know we care about them, we love them and we’re granting their holiday wishes and throwing the best holiday parties for the cause! We’ve partnered with 10 nursing homes throughout the USA to grant holiday wishes for residents who may not otherwise receive anything this holiday season. Beyond granting wishes, we will host three ultimate holiday parties, filled with gifts, music, food, dancing and more. We are in need of 1,000 Do-Gooders to help us grant wishes and volunteers to help us serve on-site. Some Facts You Should Know!
- Elderly people occupy over 1/3 of all federally subsidized housing.
- An estimated 1 in 10 senior citizens are victims of elder abuse, the intentional acts by a caregiver that lead to physical, psychological, or emotional harm.
- US poverty rates are highest for people 65 and older, with 10.5% living in poverty. There are also sharp racial differences in the data: the rates are at least 3 times higher for Hispanics and African-Americans ages 65+.
- By age 75, about 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 women don’t get ANY physical activity.
- In 2013, 5.4 million Americans over the age of 60 were food insecure. This constitutes 9 percent of all seniors.
