Oh how I love 40 Girls and Some Shoes! This amazing foundation created by Sylvia Webb is all about building people up from the sole by providing shoes across the world to the tune of 30,000 for those in need. 40 Girls and Some Shoes is a Georgia based charity outreach program servicing the homeless and impoverished citizens of the City of Atlanta and its surrounding communities.
Founded by Sylvia Webb, the organization’s primary mission is the collection and distribution of new and gently worn shoes for men, women and children, provided by its many generous supporters. Through a vast network of partnerships and associations formed in the past 6 years, 40 Girls and Some Shoes has provided over 30,000 pairs of free shoes to these under-served groups since its inception. This has been accomplished through a number of shoe drives and an annual charity event which brings together leaders of the city, other organizations aimed at serving the homeless community, and individuals who want to do their part to support this great cause. Additionally, recognizing the impact of the economic downturn in our country, 40 Girls and Some Shoes stepped up its efforts to also meet the demands of the unemployed and underemployed, some of whom are at risk of becoming homeless themselves.
Some of their community involvement includes: various church, schools, homeless shelters and outreach organization donations, a shoe distribution in Renaissance Park, Vine City Community, Atlanta West End, Marietta Rainbow Housing Center and the Old 4th Ward where those in need received free shoes after making their own personal shoe selections. Donations were made to the victims of the 2009 flooding in Austell and Marietta, Georgia, Lourdes Orphanage in Haiti and to women and children in Ghana,West Africa.
On Saturday, August 16th at 7PM Join 40 Girls and Some Shoes for their 7 year anniversary fundraiser and shoe drive. If you live in the Atlanta area this is a must attend event, in metro Atlanta on any given day there are more than 2,400 people without a home, food and clothing. Some are under bridges, many in shelters and some are sleeping on the streets. Homelessness affects us all, donating shoes is the 40 Girls way of giving back.
