October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in an effort to support the national fight against the illness, The Board of Professional Black Females, Inc . (BPBF) and Defy Clothing are hosting “The Hunt for PINK October,” a happy hour event designed to raise funds and awareness for a cure.
The event will take place Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 at Hillyer Art Space (9 Hillyer Ct NW) in Washington, DC 7pm-10pm. Defy Clothing will be releasing their exclusive 2012 “Bring the Cure Home” t-shirt in support of Breast Cancer awareness. Proceeds from t-shirt sales will be donated towards finding a cure for Breast Cancer.
Along with Breast Cancer education, great conversation about artistic pieces, and music provided by DJ Lady Blaze, attendees will enjoy giveaways from SirRah Studio and cupcakes provided by Tamicakes. Master mixologist Greg St. Clair of The Secret Lush will be serving delicious complimentary specialty cocktails provided by Fou-dre Vodka and Atlantico Rum. According to BreastCancer.org, about 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, and almost 80% of women who develop the illness have no family history of breast cancer. Compared to Caucasian women, African American women are less likely to develop breast cancer, but are more likely to die from it, due to the onset of more invasive breast cancers, and lack of education and finances for prevention. Support The BPBF, Inc. and Defy Clothing in the battle to defy Breast Cancer.
The latest in social media, Catchme will be in attendance. Be sure to download the Catchme application on your iPhone or Droid to participate at the event.
