Harvey Hosts 100 Young Men, Special Guests This Weekend in Chicago!

Comedian, radio personality, Steve Harvey and Family Feud television host, and best-selling author Steve Harvey will get up-close and personal with 100 local young men when he hosts his one-of-a-kind mentoring weekend in Chicago for the first time, on the campus of Chicago State University.  A dynamic mentoring program that has served over 800 young men nationally thus far, the Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men is an interactive, empowering experience bringing together a variety of male leaders to share the principles of manhood and dream building with young men 13-18 who are without fathers.

Throughout the intensive weekend, participants will be introduced to impassioned leaders and inspiring guests that will light a spark in guiding the young men to discover their dreams and unlock their potential while exploring different paths to adulthood.  The Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men in Chicago will host guests such as entrepreneur and former NFL player Napoleon Harris, veteran journalist Clarence Waldron, renowned motivational speaker Eric Thomas, Tied to Greatness’ Alex O. Ellis, Gates Millennium Scholars, the U.S. Army and more tackling common risks young men face growing up.  Personal responsibility, team building, dream building, the importance of your image and leadership skills will be tackled in sessions, including You Can Be Me, Street Realities and Manhood 101.  Additionally there will be separate workshops for parents and guardians, Manage Your Life; a Q&A with Steve Harvey; and Where Do We Go From Here.

Providing diverse and uplifting visions of success in these tailor-made activities and workshops, Harvey’s Chicago mentoring weekend will welcome guests and support from sponsors State Farm, NBC5 Chicago, Comcast, Telemundo, Chicago State University, V-103 FM, The U.S. Army, K&G Fashion Superstore, Coca-Cola and Frito-Lay.  Selected through an application process, the 100 young men are between 13-18 years old in grades 9-12, and come from single female-headed households in Chicago.  Local restaurants that have donated meals for the weekend are: Harold’s Chicken, Morrison’s Cafeteria and Table 52.

Harvey says, “The young men coming here will know that no matter what circumstances they may be facing, they are not alone. A mentor can help them unlock something incredible within themselves, discover a dream and a future they didn’t think was possible, with this Chicago mentoring experience that is solely focused on them and achieving great futures as the men they are meant to become.”

Besides the Steve Harvey Mentoring Campaign recruitment drive to inspire men to become mentors, on November 17 also on the campus Steve Harvey will host “Steve & Marjorie Harvey’s Big Turkey Give.” The Harveys have arranged for a giveaway of 1,000 turkeys in Chicago, to various pre-selected groups and organizations there to share with families in need. Oh yes Giving is Good and Steve Harvey is king at giving!

I admire the mentoring program that Mr. Harvey is doing with teen boys and would like to know if he would consider coming to the Valdosta, Georgia area to share that mentoring program.
I am secretary for the Morven Rosenwald Alumni Association, Inc. and our organization is interested in providing a mentoring program to the youth in the community. The program would be housed in a newly renovated historic Rosenwald school building.  If interested, please contact me.
