UCAN, which stands for U Can Achieve Now, was conceived in 2005 and was birthed in 2006. For four years, UCAN drove self preservation into many North Memphis at-risk youth and nurtured them to a confident, graduate, empowered adolescent.
The organization’s mission is to strengthen young adolescents through mentoring, personal development, and education which will bring forth a positive impact on the community through their growth and awareness. By strengthening the connection with our adolescents, UCAN enhances their personal lives, which in turn help them form a brighter future.
In 2011, the President of the organization, Leshundra Finley, suffered a terrible tragedy, one where her brother committed suicide. This tragic event, caused the organization to stall it’s efforts. However, in November 2011, the President made a decision to continue with the commitment of helping future leaders succeed and the organization has since sponsored and participated in events including: SAVE, helping the homeless, mentoring middle and high school students.
The organizations main goal is to help underprivileged youth in the community of Memphis, TN by exposing them to a world where being successful and productive with their lives is not only their goal, but UCAN’s as well.
