Black Celebrity Giving Celebrates a Successful “Giving Boutique” in Atlanta!

Black Celebrity Giving (BCG) celebrates the success of the 2013 Giving Boutique Atlanta (July 27th 2013). Each quarter, BCG – the frontier provider of positive media coverage of black celebrity philanthropy, non-profit organizations and good news – chooses one social cause to tackle through a national Cause Campaign: a special partnership with a celebrity that allows us to raise awareness, funds and other forms of support for the cause in question. To develop the campaign, we interviewed several homeless teens and families living in Atlanta and Los Angeles. And we were shocked to hear that an overwhelming number of the people we spoke to felt dehumanized by the amount of discarded and unwanted donations they receive, often in trash bags. They told us that, while they were grateful for the help, it made them feel hopeless and unwanted. With that information in mind, we set forward to offer homeless families across the country, the opportunity to have a true “shopping experience,” minus the price tags, of course.

Since April 2013, BCG has been collecting new and gently used children’s clothing across the country, with the support of our celebrity ambassador television star and NY Times Best-Selling Author Toya Wright. The first of our pop-up shopping boutiques took place in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, July 27, 2013. We are thrilled to say that we were able to offer this unique shopping experience and day of pampering to more than 500 homeless and low-income youth.

Each child received three to four outfits, new under-garments, accessories and shoes. Beyond being able to cover the basic necessity of back-to-school clothes, we were excited to have offered these youth and their families a true luxury shopping experience, complete with a live-DJ, refreshments, and more. As an added treat, our youth and their families were greeted by a host of celebrity sales associates.

Every night, more than 200,000 children have no place to live and lack basic necessities such as food and clothing. Therefore we are excited to have achieved our goal of giving back to as many people as possible. Moving forward BCG is hoping to experience the same success in New Orleans, LA, Columbus, OH, Philadelphia, PA and Charlotte, NC as we’ve seen in the ATLANTA Giving Boutique.

We are thankful to the many celebrities that came out to show support, but more importantly we are grateful to the 500 plus attendees that gave us the opportunity to impacted their lives. The Atlanta Giving Boutique was an immense success, that would not have been possible without our dear sponsors: The Jewelry Factory, Vintige Clothing Collection, Enchanted Closet, Feed the Homeless Tour, Garb Shoetique and our host location I Am Music!
