Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of a 51-year-old mother and the disappearance of her 11-year-old son.
At this time, detectives are investigating the death as an apparent homicide. Police are identifying the deceased victim as 51-year-old Jane McQuain of Briarcliff Terrace in Germantown. Her son, William McQuain, is missing.
On October 12, around 8:30pm, detectives responded to the Briarcliff Terrace apartment as part of a missing person investigation. Earlier that day, a friend of Jane McQuain had reported to police that he had not been able to contact her and was concerned for her welfare. Upon arriving, officers made entry into the apartment and discovered Jane McQuain dead in her bedroom. There was evidence of trauma to her body.
The whereabouts of Jane McQuain’s son, 11-year-old William McQuain, are unknown at this time. William McQuain was last in seen at his residence on approximately September 30th. He is described as a light skin black male, approximately 5’ tall and weighing 85 pounds. A vehicle registered to Jane McQuain is also missing and William McQuain could be with the vehicle. It is described as a black, 2011 Honda CRV with Maryland tags 5AG9405.
An Amber Alert has been activated for William McQuain by the Maryland State Police with the guidance to call 911 if anyone has information concerning the location of William McQuain or the location of the Honda CRV.
