Charity Spotlight: 100 Urban Entrepreneurs

100 URBAN ENTREPRENEURS (100UE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation dedicated to helping provide a meaningful, long-term economic boost to urban communities throughout the United States by supporting minority entrepreneurship at its earliest stages. We do so by offering $10,000 startup grants and eight weeks of intensive business mentoring to entrepreneurs in all industries, all across the United States.

Their goal is to teach, mentor and help finance minority entrepreneurs, and others from economically distressed and disadvantaged groups — those who would not otherwise have access to startup capital or a professional network to tap. 100 Urban Entrepreneurs funding and mentoring processes are transparent; the selection process is open, often conducted via live business-pitch events we host at entrepreneur forums around the country. 100 Urban Entrepreneurs also offer many small-business tools online at no charge, and enlist their fundees to share their experiences online and in person so that other urban entrepreneurs can benefit from their experience.

Ultimately, they wish to promote financial literacy, personal responsibility, business ownership and wealth creation in a context that their audience finds realistic and inspiring, one that will leave urban entrepreneurs nationwide in the best position to build successful businesses and create jobs — an assist to America’s economic recovery that begins with an investment in their own community.

100UE is a 501(c)3 organization that has established itself as a resource to entrepreneurs nationwide. As part of their obligation to educating and uplifting entrepreneurs, 100UE will host a series of instructional workshops throughout the year and seeks to provide an economic boost to America’s urban communities by awarding $10,000 startup grants and eight weeks of intensive business mentoring to budding businesses.

Today’s fiscal challenges push 100UE toward financial self-sustainability and the organization heavily relies on donations from corporate and individual partners. 100UE’s commitment to entrepreneurial excellence has garnered the support of the City of Atlanta Office of the Mayor, Atlanta Development Authority, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, GRAMMY winning songwriter/producer Bryan-Michael Cox and a host of successful entrepreneurs. To expand on its mission, 100UE is set to open a center in Atlanta that will lend itself as a new type of business incubator — one in which urban entrepreneurs can work closely with mentors, investors, peers and potential customers to develop and launch startups at least three times every year.
