Although I don’t watch as much television as I did when I was younger, I can reminice on watching Ms. Greer (Wendy Raquel Robinson) and Mr. Hightower (Steve Harvey) on the Steve Harvey Show. The two had such good chemistry as soon to be on screen black couples. Wendy Raquel Robinson plays Tasha on the hit TV show “The Game”. She’s a professional to say the least and the Black Women in Film will honor her and other outstanding Black women in the film industry Friday March 9th in Downtown Atlanta.
The recipients and nominees are very well deserving individuals. The title couldn’t have hit their journey any better than Untold Stories. The Black Community shares more than its fair share of great actresses and recent Oscar Winner Octavia Spencer, Halle Berry, Kerry Washington, and the list goes on. This event caters to Women of Color and their contributions to a film industry that generates billions of dollars annually.
“The event is in keeping with our mission to honor women in the film and entertainment space. We are also supporting students who passionately pursuing their careers in film and new media,” says Alicia J. Scarborough, executive director of Black Women Film Network, a nationwide non-profit organization with headquarters in Atlanta.
Roger Bobb, Tyler Perry’s long time Vice President will host the event at the Marriott Atlanta Marquis.
The Honorees include Wendy Raquel Robinson, Traci Blackwell the Vice President of CW Network, and Tasha Smith of Jumping the Broom and Meet the Browns.
Events like these make me incredibly proud that there’s a group of people who work year round to honor an underrepresented group of people and honor their contributions. I join the Black Women in Film to say Thank you to our Queen’s.
Learn more about this great non-profit Black Women in Film. They are located in downtown Atlanta and they offer scholarships for women of color. They support women trying to make a career in film, as well as scholarships for film, broadcast, radio, news broadcast and more.
