Singer and Philanthropist, Alicia Keys announce today that her charity a BCG favorite, Keep A Child Alive, will honor the media mogul Oprah Winfrey at the foundation’s annual Black Ball on November 1st. Key says in a statement that the media mogul is “a personal inspiration to me because her philanthropic work truly comes from the heart.”
It is no secret that Oprah has a heart of gold. She has donated millions of dollars to various charities and organizations, using her celebrity to publicize The Angel Network, 100% of any donation you give, goes directly towards funding a project. Some examples of the projects are The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa and Rebuilding the Gulf Coast. Oprah is an ever-present advocate for HIV/AIDS having donated money and time to the Clinton Foundation, which supports many causes including treating HIV and AIDS and fighting climate change.
Keep a Child Alive was founded in 2003. It assists those affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. Keys says this year’s Black Ball will pay “special tribute to the empowerment of women — the heartbeat, soul, and backbone of the AIDS movement.”
The ninth annual event will take place at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Past honorees include former President Bill Clinton, Sir Richard Branson and Bono. Congratulations Oprah on a well-deserved honor!
