BCG headed to Charlotte, NC last weekend to take part in the 2012 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) 100th Anniversary Tournament. We set up shop at the Toyota Fan Experience and welcomed thousands of visitors to take part in the BCG experience and share with us causes that mattered to them. Needless to say we met hundreds of good souls with heart-strings fro causes ranging from HIV/AIDS to Mentoring to Domestic Violence. We are pride to say that giving back truly is the new black!

The highlight of our weekend came Saturday afternoon as I personally along with some great friends and BCG Volunteers ventured out to the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, NC to deliver more than $1,000 in clothing, toiletries and food. It was a moving event as we unloaded three carts full of items that will benefit a shelter that houses nightly more than 300 homeless men. We got to speak with several of the residents who are now big fans of BCG! We asked them what was the number one thing they felt was keeping them from self sufficiency and they said they can’t find a job. One resident told us that if you’re a felon it’s 100 times harder to find a job. There are programs in Charlotte that many of the residents say they are participating in, in hopes of finding a better life.

On our way out we met a young man there to visit his uncle who told BCG proudly that he worked his way out of the shelter and shares with the current residents that they to can of it.

It’s truly my belief that there is no greater feeling than giving back to someone who need a heeling hand! We thank the city of Charlotte for hosing a wonderful weekend and send a special salute to the workers and residents of the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte!
