There’s nothing bad about Beyonce that anyone can say to me; I am no doubt a Beyonce stan! It was announced on Thursday, August 7th, that the pop star and philanthropist was joining the United Nations global humanitarian campaign, I was very excited to say the least! Beyonce has joined the campaign in an effort to get others to rise up and get involved in social change around the world. The campaign aims to highlight humanitarian work and encourage people to get involved by doing something good for others.
The campaign has released a short video clip, the video (see above) shows Bey in braids, urging viewers to take action and be good to one another. “On Aug. 19, it’s high time we rise together. Do one thing for another human being. Nothing is too small,” she adds. “It begins with each of us. Make your mark and say, ‘I was here.’” “This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care,” Beyonce said.
Beyonce and songwriter Diane Warren will donate a video of “I Was Here” that will be filmed in the UN General Assembly Hall in New York in front of a live audience. The video will premiere on World Humanitarian Day, August 19th, and the U.N. hopes that the clip will reach 1 billion viewers.
“One day. One message. One billion people taking action for each other,” Beyonce grins in the video. “I’ll see you then.” Every year on August 19th, World Humanitarian Day recognizes those who face danger and adversity to help others. August 19th is the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which killed 22 people.
The day honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and we pay tribute to those who continue to help people around the world, regardless of who they are and where they are.
Every day we see and hear images and stories of pain and suffering in our own neighborhoods and in countries far away. But we also find acts of kindness, great and small. World Humanitarian Day is a global celebration of people helping people.
The UN has created a campaign website www.whd-iwashere.org; which will provide members of the public with an opportunity to unite and share their individual acts of good. The site lists several humanitarian aid organizations of which people can simply click on to take action in an area of their choice.
