Bring Em’ Bring Em’ Out to RunWay Red Saturday August 11th Zoo Atlanta!

The Boys & Girls Club’s motto reads “Be Great.” Dictionary.com defines great as “being such as in an extreme or notable degree”. If you asked me to spell out what I thought Show Me the Way Foundation meant I would tell you that greatness lives at the door step of Show me The Way, it has an inarguable genuine founder who lives and works for what she is passionate about, helping kids. Too often we get involved when it’s too late to redirect destructive behavior of young kids, but her preemptive unadulterated approach to combating HIV/AIDS is a perfect example of “being the change you want to see in the world” in the words of Mohanadas Ghandi world renowned humanitarian.

I’m often discouraged by the swift and uncontested quickness we are to jump on new trends and get rich schemes. Fear fills my mind with thoughts of losing sight of being vigilant in the lives of our youth. You can fake the funk but not in the world of non profits. I say this to say that we need to support and encourage the Tashawnya’s of the world.  She told me “there were times where I was down to my last dollar and I put it towards my foundation” and look at what it has become. Six years, will soon be 16 years and before we know it will be 60 years. Thank you for investing in people Tashawnya Menefee, the world has seen a bit of your greatness and ought to embrace what is to come.

I have met leaders of many non profits and I’ve covered their events, but Show me The Way Foundation is one that touched me the most. It’s innovative, community based, and ground breaking in the world of non profits. Tashawnya Menefee of Crim High here in Atlanta, Georgia is the President/ Executive Director of Show Me the Way Foundation which  focuses on helping kids in the community that are affected/infected with HIV/AIDS.

International superstar Akon’s sons will walk the runway along with the daughter of hip hop’s king of the south TI.  Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield’s little one’s will participate and Chilli from TLC’s son will return for a repeat performance.

“I am always moved by the support from the celebrity community,” says Show Me the Way foundation executive director Tashawnya Menefee. “We have worked with new celebrities every year and we also have some that have supported us again and again. I’m just thankful that they have a heart for our foundation and the children affected by HIV/AIDS that the foundation was created to assist.”

Title sponsor Dream Kids is excited at the momentum building in the city and looking forward to being a major part of the program this year. “We are very excited to be a part of this year’s production,” says Charlene Bastien, Strength of Nature National Marketing Director/African Pride Dream Kids Hair Care. “The show is going to be one to remember.”

News of the upcoming celebrity kids fashion show has Atlanta buzzing after supermodel Cynthia Bailey (RHOA) hosted a model call on July 1st for additional talent to accompany the celebrity children in the show. Over three hundred children ages 5-18 came out to audition for the chance to strut alongside the offspring of some of their favorite celebrities. Menefee says she loves that the children participating are privy to an authentic production, and it has helped many of them find an inspiration to pursue modeling. “We have Runway Red alumni doing major productions and getting booked for commercials and productions in NY, etc.,” she states proudly.

Celebrity confirmations continue rolling in as the Runway Red staff prepares for a major production in less than thirty days. Title sponsor African Pride Dream Kids Hair Care is excited at the momentum building in the city and looking forward to being a major part of the program this year. “Our contribution has increased significantly since the last year and we have some surprises in store for the audience and of course the children participating this year,” says Charlene Bastien.
