In an attempt to preserve a piece of African-American culture, B-Girls, Incorporated enhances the lives of Black Girls by teaching them that it is acceptable and encouraged for them to be comfortable with who they are and who they hope to become. Through mentorship, health and nutrition initiatives, career development, and educational and cultural planning, B-Girls are taught to embrace their own identities and to define their lives within African-American culture.
B-Girls, Inc. provides a host of extra-curricular activities that celebrate “Black Girlhood”. Through programs like “Homage to Hip-Hop” and “Double Dutch”, participants are able to fuse pieces of culture with pieces of their own personalities for the purpose of reclaiming the identity of the Black Girl. In a society where Black women are too often objectified in music videos, media, and even in everyday life, B-Girls are nurtured to maintain their respect, self-image, and innocence. Founder Britney Watkins has combined her passion for social injustice and African-American culture to produce an organization dedicated to educating youth. Ms. Watkins is dedicating her life to young girls and their future.
You all are doing a GREAT JOB!
