In 1970, the Concerned Black Women (CBW) of the Conejo Valley was founded in Thousand Oaks, CA. CBW organized primarily to educate the populace of the Conejo Valley on the Black historical contribution to the USA.CBW began by providing informative displays of artwork and related reading materials to local libraries annually during Black History Month. CBW expanded their mission to include annual scholarship awards for deserving African-American high school seniors, participation in charitable events, and support of civic activities in the community.
Concerned Black Women furthers it’s mission by participating in the annual Martin Luther King Day March & History Program, sponsoring the Ventura County Saturday School, providing educational displays at local libraries during Black History Month, and staff support to the Ventura County Saturday School enrichment program & annual Kwanzaa Celebration. Finally, CBW encourages the pursuit of higher education through annual scholarship awards to deserving graduating high school seniors.
