Because of war, disease, and poverty, there are thousands of orphans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Madeleine Mehaffey has been helping a lot of people in need in the DRC; in 2001, she started a foundation called Foundation Luamba (Folua) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Folua the foundation started an orphanage called “House of Hope.” In the “House of Hope” they take care of 16 children providing total care–housing, health care, education, food and clothing among other needs. Many of the children’s parents died from war; others had no job or a place to stay; some, were so poor that they could not send their children to school or to feed them. Imagine a 10 year old child who had never been to school?
Madeleine took in 16 children, 8 boys and 8 girls. Some of the children had malaria, worms, amoebas, ringworm, and/or were malnourished. Through the shelter the children received medical care, medication and enrolled in school with three meals a day. Kudos to Ms. Madeline for her work with this foundation!
I am wondering if you are still helping out with this orphanage and what is the status/how many kids are there. Please get back with me. mcculloughjen@hotmail.com
