The Chaka Khan Foundation, founded by the legendary singer, Chaka Khan, aims to educate, inspire, and empower children to achieve their full potential. The foundation gives children who are at risk, either from poverty or from health issues like autism, the ability to achieve their dreams and give back to the community.
The Chaka Khan Foundation has several programs that encourage at-risk children to reach for the stars. One program called The Chaka Believes Program, strives to lessen the achievement gap for underserved students by providing the academic support they need to maintain grade-level proficiency. Through the Scholars Building Scholars program, the Foundation partners with the University of Southern California to provide bi-weekly tutoring to more than 60 children from South Central Los Angeles.
The Chaka Khan Foundation also recruits business and entertainment leaders to mentor the kids and show them the unlimited possibilities they have before them. Through exposure to amazing opportunities and to positive role models, these children are able to visualize their dreams. The Chaka Khan Foundation also works to build the self-esteem of the young people participating in their programs and provides the essential tools that will enable them to attend college, including important life skills and financial training for program participants and their families. The foundation also provides college scholarships for those who successfully complete the program.
