According to the Center for Disease Control, the United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancies in the World. One-third of girls get pregnant before the age of 20. Because teen pregnancy can be one of the most difficult situations for a young girl, Candise Jackson founded theteenmommy.org, a website to provide support through educational resources and scholarships that are available to the “non-traditional” student.
Founder Candise Jackson, a teen mom herself, knew all too well of the struggles and obstacles placed before young mothers. With the birth of her baby girl in 1998 at the tender age of 17, Ms. Jackson was inspired to help other teen mothers who were faced with the same challenges she was enduring. However, it wasn’t until 2001 that she launched her website and began down a road of encouragement.
Theteenmommy.org is not only a host for Ms. Jackson’s blog based around her plight as a young mother, but also provides leads to scholarships and other opportunities for teen mothers to remain in school and on a path towards careers. She is an inspiration to young moms who are unaware of the many resources available to them.
“To inform, inspire & ignite teen parents & their children through services & progressive opportunities toward self-sufficiency.”
