Urban Butterfliez is a mentoring program that was established in October 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland by CEO and Founder, Azia Z. Moore. The program’s objective is to improve the quality of life for young ladies who are 10-17 and are surrounded by negative aspects of the environment such as poverty and substance abuse. The goal is to first provide academic help, extracurricular activities, and spiritual well-being but to also make the girls feel confident, walk in grace, and strive for excellence. The program wants to create a peaceful environment where “a girl can be a girl.”
Urban Butterfliez hopes to get as many parents and guardians involved in the “metamorphosis” of these young women. Their needs are of the utmost importance to our society, the program, and, most importantly, their growth. Urban Butterfliez allows the girls to engage in several different enrichment programs such as ones that teach love and self-respect, community service, and hygiene. Urban Butterfliez strives to “empower, encourage and impact the lives of girls everywhere by engaging them in family and community,” and they need all the love and support of those who are willing to be by these girls’ sides as they grow into women.
