Their goal is to equip at-risk and underprivileged youth with the skills, abilities, and the sense of self-worththey’ll need to make good life decisions about education, career, family and relationships, and also to buffer them from the risk factors that threaten their progression into productive adulthood – factors such as the easy availability of drugs, physical abuse and neglect, neighborhood violence, poverty and low neighborhood attachment, negative peer pressure, and early academic failure, to name a few.
Through Cultural Enrichment opportunities, children and families are provided the opportunity to visit museums, attend performances of theatre, music, and dance and participate in activities outside of their daily experiences and other Our Kids Atlanta programs. In this way, the Cultural Enrichment opportunities complements our other core services, as children and parents are able to use their experiences at museums and performances to enhance their own artistic creations during Weekly Mentor, Free Arts Day, or PACT
Key to our programs is providing opportunities for recognition for all students who participate. For all classes and Arts activities, Our Kids Atlanta schedules exhibits, recitals, and public performances to allow students the opportunity to displaying their talents and the results of their hard work all semester, and receive public recognition for their work.

“Children need to experience a sense of accomplishment and be recognized for their efforts. This program enables kids to succeed at something and provides them positive feedback.”
By establishing positive mentoring relationships with talented, dedicated teaching artists, our youth can begin to see options for their own lives that they might not have recognized before, and through active engagement, and opportunities for recognition, our kids can begin to see themselves in new ways
We are always looking for talented teaching artists and staff to work with our kids. If you have a heart and an interest in working with youth, send us a resume and information about yourself. Weekly Arts Mentoring Classes form the core of the work that we do with the youth that enroll in our programs. By working directly in the schools in after-school prgrams, we reach out to kids, in their communities, right where they are. Classes meet weekly or bi-weekly, right in the schools where we work.
