Anyone else just as sad and shocked as me to learn that Chicago’s murder rate thus far this year is the highest in 10 years! Can any good come out of this? Well it looks like the shine may be shinning a bit brighter in Chicago in the coming weeks. Recently 17 year old rapper Chief Keef has been slammed by many including fellow Chicago native and hip hop star Lupe Fiasco for his negative influence on youth, in particular Chicago youth. According to several sources Chief Keef, is reportedly making some positive changes in his life while behind bars. In fact, he is expected to come out a changed man. Last week, he met with local Chicago pastor and Hoodie Award winner Corey Brooks of Project Hood. Pastor Brooks reported that his meeting went well ” We laughed, we cried, we prayed,” tweeted Pastor Brooks.
According to AllHipHop.com Chief is no longer going by his stage name and is instead reverting back to his real name of Keith. He also is being respectful and trying to change his ways so that he can be a better person when he gets out in a few months.
Apparently, Chief (or Keith as he is now known in prison) is a “respectful, generous little dude” who isn’t at all like the person portrayed by the media and through his music. Now I know many people would ask can he change, will he change and how can he rap about guns and killing people and think it’s OK? I asked myself the same thing, and then I remembered we are not here to judge.
Do you think Chief Keef will come out of jail a changed person? Will his release help curb or end this obsessive violence in the Chicago community? Let’s pray it does!
