Chris Brown won big last night at the MTV VMA’s and the star has been doing his bit for the community, by visiting and helping youngsters prepare for school at Los Angeles’ Jenesse Center, a non-profit that specializes in domestic violence intervention and prevention. Jenesse Center, Inc. is the oldest domestic violence intervention program in South Los Angeles. The Center was founded in 1980 by five African American women who were survivors of domestic violence. Our mission is to provide victims of domestic violence with a comprehensive, centralized base of support to assist them in addressing their immediate crisis and changing the patterns of their lives.
Chris Brown has been a frequent face at the center along with his mom Joyce. Chris has provided the kids with new school supplies, encouraging them to stay focused, while helping them gear up for another year of school.
According to a CEO of the center who had nothing but praise for Brown’s work at the facility, the singer and his mother have been part of the organisation for quite some time now, with the two often visiting the center to further educate themselves on the issue of domestic violence.
“It is our focus on family violence and its impact on youth that compelled us to open our hearts and doors to Chris Brown and his mother, Joyce Hawkins.”
“Chris and his mom have spent many quiet hours at our facilities, no cameras, no special attention or entourages – they just came to learn. Jenesse is thankful to Chris for spending time with our youth and celebrating the end of summer and returning back to school,” added the CEO.
The Moon Man and Grammy winning singer also discussed his work at the center, saying, “It’s in my heart to show my fans, my friends and family and the families at Jenesse who stood by me, that they were right to give me another chance. I’m working hard to make them proud.”
Good Job Chris!
