Good News in Sad Times… This week has been perhaps the saddest week our souls have had to endure in quite some time. With the deaths back to back within 48 hours of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, followed by the shooting of 11 police officers in Dallas, TX. To say the least we all could use something to make us smile and here you go.
Writer and actress Issa Rae began a scholarship fund for the children of Alton Sterling on Wednesday, raising $200,000 in just nine hours and proving that there is strength in community. As of this post the GoFundMe campaign has raised $620,312 enough to surely send all five of Sterlings kids to college.
Not wanting to feel helpless in the wake of Sterling’s fatal shooting, Rae announced on Twitter that she would be taking action. “Here it is,” she tweeted. “Donate to the #AltonSterling Family Scholarship Fund.”
Way to go Issa!
