Since the Ferguson decision and last week’s ruling not to indict the man who put Eric Garner in a chokehold, protests have sparked up all around the world. From Portland to NYC, people have taken to the streets to get their voices heard.
One Hollywood couple who have come forward in support of the protests is John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. As the protests have continued on, the power couple decided to order food trucks to help feed the hungry protesters. For free.
While Chrissy and John haven’t publicly commented on this kind gesture, Chrissy did retweet a tweet that stated, “3-6pm. FREE food trucks by Trader Joe’s Union Sq. @ophelporhush #FergusontoNYC #NYC2Ferguson”
Protestors marched up and down the NYC streets expressing their anger toward police brutality. While New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton expressed doubt about future protests, Reuters claims protests will continue. John and Chrissy haven’t personally been to these protests where they’re supplying food, but they’ve let their opinions be known.
One proposed idea to prevent police brutality would be to implement cameras onto officers’ suits. This action has been favored by many, including New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. He expressed, “Body cameras are one of the ways to create a real sense of transparency and accountability.” However, because Eric Garner’s chokehold was filmed and there was still no indictment, the same activists who push for cameras would assert it’s not the only way to go.
