John Legend and Donté Stallworth are just two of the celebrity men lending their voice to speak up about sexual assault. Did you know an American is sexually assaulted every two minutes? And somehow we’ve created this culture where it’s the woman’s responsibility not to get raped.
Now many men are stepping up and participating in the #ItsOnUs campaign. They’ve taken a stand to say that sexual assault is not just a women’s issue: It’s everyone’s issue.
Men have been taking the pledge and posting their own #ItsOnUs messages. And their messages have been very powerful. Men have posed in pictures with messages about ending the victim-blaming, promoting consent, and making sure that we all take care of each other.
Even celebrities have been coming out to support the campaign, like John Legend with his message, “Sexual assault is NOT the victim’s fault!” and the NFL’s Donté Stallworth’s message saying, “1 in 5 college women will be a survivor of sexual assault #ItsOnUs to change that.”
Men have also written about how it’s time to stop blaming the victim and teaching women not to get raped. Instead, it’s time to teach not to rape. “Enough with safety tips, we need to teach men NOT TO RAPE!” Global Grind‘s Michael Skolnik wrote.
And these are only some of the powerful messages that men have been posting to show that they’re becoming more involved in ending sexual assault. Will you take the It’s On Us pledge?
