Lupe Fiasco and The Lupe Fiasco Foundation!

A Chicago native, Lupe Fiasco certainly has not forgotten where he came from. With his Lupe Fiasco Foundation he continues for be a BCG (Black Celebrity Giver). The Lupe Fiasco Foundation provides inner city youth ages 14-24 with comprehensive positive youth development programming that embodies educational advancement, service learning and leadership, global capacity building and music education. The foundation is an ever-present community endeavor laser-focused on giving back. Recently Lupe embarked on a mission titled “Feeding The Community Block by Block,” in which the foundation did just that. What intrigues me most about Mr. Fiasco is his commitment to inspire others to be the change, just like him. On his Facebook he asks his followers, quite simply ” Why not be the Lupe in your community?” Making quite a powerful statement with Erykah Badu at the recent BET Hip Hop Awards, Lupe truly embodies that belief in social change. In a recent interview with 107.5 WGCI Lupe shared his reasoning behind his foundation and his plans for his next endarvor a coat drive for those bitter-cold Chicago.

“The Lupe Fiasco Foundation is basically something that me and my sister and my family and different people around the city put together t just launch different initiatives to uplift the community from the education side to just the hands-on side with…food drives and this is our first annual coat drives,” he said. “It’s just something that I’ve been doing personally for a long time behind the scenes. it’s just something now where we can reach out and hopefully mobilize other people to come out and help…and help put some positivity back into their city.”

He added, “[Our goal is] 1000 coats, and that’s the low end. We’re starting out small. Winter time’s coming, and you know how winter is in Chicago. Even with all the climate change it’s still cold.”
