NBA star Josh Howard announced he will host his 5th annual celebrity weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. “The Josh Howard Celebrity Weekend,” July 27-31 to include activities for children and adults including: a free youth basketball camp, a celebrity flag football game, concert and a private reception with Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines.
The Winston-Salem-based Josh Howard Celebrity Weekend event kickoffs Wednesday, July 27 with a free youth basketball camp that will affect 100 area youth at the Hanes Hosiery Community Center. “The Josh Howard Basketball Drills & Life Skills Camp” will provide Winston-Salem-area youth ages seven and up, with basketball drills and life skills training.
On Saturday, July 30 The Josh Howard Celebrity Weekend will host its celebrity flag football game and autograph signing at Wake Forest University’s Kentner Stadium. “The Josh Howard Celebrity Flag Football Game” will feature celebrity and athlete guests including: Washington Wizards’ John Wall and Trevor Booker, Utah Jazz’s Devin Harris, Sacramento Kings’ Marquis Daniels, Atlanta Hawks’ Josh Powell, Dallas Cowboys’ Dez Bryant, Actor Lamman Rucker, Actress Kellita Smith, BET’s Alesha Renee, Football Wives’ Chanita Foster, Love & Hip Hop’s Olivia, Basketball Wives’ Royce, Radio Personalities B-Daht, Kyle Santillion, Tap Money and Big Moe from 102 JAMZ , Personality Busta Brown and Councilman Derwin Montgomery. Teams will be coached by Winston-Salem State University’s Athletic Director Bill Hayes, in addition to the University’s head football and basketball coaches Connell Maynor and Bobby Collins, respectfully, and former WSSU Ram and NFL vet Yancey Thigpen. The Josh Howard Foundation has donated game tickets to the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club and to Goodwill Industries; general admission for the game is only $5.
Howard is set to host a live concert, Saturday night, July 30th at the Hawthorn Inn Hotel featuring rapper Doug E. Fresh a.k.a “The Human Beat Box”. Doug E. Fresh will perform hits like “La Di Da Di” and “The Show” – two of his chart-topping songs. Tickets for the event are $20 and will begin at 10 p.m.
In conjunction with the 2011 National Black Theater Festival, The Josh Howard Celebrity Weekend will close out its activities with a private reception Sunday, July 31st co-hosted with Winston-Salem’s Mayor Allen Joines. The private, invite-only event will kickoff the festival.

Tickets for The Josh Howard Celebrity Flag Football Game and Doug E. Fresh Concert are available via the Josh Howard Weekend website. In addition to his Winston-Salem events, Josh hosted a celebrity weekend in Dallas, Texas earlier this year which featured a youth basketball camp, adult comedy show and a celebrity basketball game.
All proceeds raised from this weekend of events will go to support the mission and events of the Josh Howard Foundation.
