It’s officially NFL Giving Season and we love it! Chung Changing Lives, founded by New England Patriots player Patrick Chung and his wife Cecelia Chung is dedicated to improving the lives of children. CCL was established to support the personal and academic development of boys and girls through providing access to enrichment and educational programs ranging from swimming classes to musical instruction. The goal of CCL is to cultivate healthy lifestyles and active civic participation by ensuring that children have equal access to character-shaping experiences. The foundation, along with the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Inc. (BCNC) have announced they will host Summer Music Academy for Real Teens (SMART), for a second year. The six-week intensive academy allows a select group of Greater Boston youth to learn from and work with professional musicians in building their music skills, all while developing lasting connections with others across geographic and cultural boundaries.
The program, taking place from July 7 through August 15, is free for all attendees. SMART is currently accepting applications for a limited time.
“We’re excited to welcome music students from all levels and backgrounds to join us once again for SMART,” Patrick Chung said. “Both of my parents were music professionals – my mother a singer and my father a producer. Because they followed their passions, they were able to give me the opportunities I’ve had to succeed. I’m thrilled we can offer the same opportunity for music students to follow their passions.”
Chung Changing Lives will also host the Second Annual SMART Pep Rally on July 10 at Josiah Elementary School from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to officially kick-off this year’s program.
To be eligible for the academy, music students should be between the ages of 12-15 and from the Greater Boston area. Spots are limited, and filling out an application does not guarantee a spot in the program. Selected applicants will be contacted in June.
