Pharrell’s Grammy Hat Charity Auction Raises $44,000 to Empower Kids! Say what you will about Pharrell’s infamous Grammy hat but don’t say it doesn’t give back. Last night was a big night for Pharrell not only was he nominated for an Oscar, he performed his hit new single at the Oscars and his hat from the Grammy’s (which by the way he won, bringing his total to seven) raised over $40,000 for a great cause.
The now famous Vivienne Westwood “Mountain” hat was recently auctioned off for charity on eBay. Ending on Sunday night moments before the Oscars, the Buffalo hat worn at this year’s Grammy Awards sold for $44,100. The winner? A familiar new friend of The Neptunes producer, as Arbys, who first poked fun at Pharrell’s fashion choice, won the auction.
“Thank you to whoever bought my Grammy hat on @eBay for $44,100. Your donation benefits From One Hand To AnOTHER,” tweeted Pharrell.” Shortly after that Tweet. “@Pharrell You’re welcome. We’re HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back. Good luck at the #Oscars tonight!,” followed Arbys, who posted a photo of their winning bid. All the proceeds will support Pharrell’s From One Hand to AnOTHER non-profit organization, he founded in 2008 which empowers kids to learn through new technologies, arts, and media.
Hats off to Pharrell *no pun intended :-)* on using his hat to give back!
