Former NFL quarterback and co-founder of the HollyRod Foundation, Rodney Peete, has teamed up with Allstate Insurance Company to recognize 4 outstanding African-Americans for their commitment to community service for the 4th annual Give Back Day. The Give Back Day program pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by encouraging people to volunteer in their local communities every day and on MLK Day 2012 (Jan. 16). As part of the program, these four individuals will attend the King Center’s “Salute to Greatness” awards in Atlanta on January 14, 2012, and, along with Rodney Peete, they will lead a community service project on MLK Day 2012.
In addition, Peete will also be attending a special Allstate Give Back Day volunteer event in Atlanta on MLK Day 2012. “It is an honor for me to be associated with this committed and selfless group of heroes. I have always believed in getting involved in causes that you are passionate about, and it’s great to see these individuals mirroring the spirit of Dr. King by giving back,” says Peete, who spent 16 years as an NFL quarterback. Peete’s foundation with his wife, Holly, is called the HollyRod Foundation, and its mission is to help those living with autism and Parkinson’s disease. The pair is currently developing plans to open their first “HollyRod4kids Compassionate Care Center for Autism” in Los Angeles, a central location where families in the autism community can go for support, guidance, treatment and hope.
“The Allstate Give Back Day Heroes are remarkable individuals who selflessly give back, keeping Dr. King’s legacy alive through their passionate commitment to service,” says Vicky Dinges, vice president of public social responsibility for Allstate. “Their volunteer efforts reflect the values and causes important to Allstate and communities across America. We hope their stories inspire others to put their good hands to work in their own communities every day and on Jan. 16, in honor of Dr. King.”
The 2012 class of Heroes is a very unique group, with each person holding an inspirational story of how they continue to create
lasting change in their communities. These individual’s uphold Dr. King’s legacy through plenty of services we may take for granted every day from free barbershop services to a baseball league for underprivileged children to a domestic violence support group. Allstate Insurance Company has also given back to the community heroes by making a $2,500 donation to any charity of each hero’s choosing.
