I’ve only been in Atlanta less than a year, but what I love most about this city is that people really give back, especially our radio personalities. I’ve often reported on the great work that fellow V-103 host Egypt Sherrod does and I’m happy to highlight the work of Ryan Cameron, host of the Ryan Cameron Morning Show. The Ryan Cameron Foundation (RCF) is a nonprofit youth centric 501(c)3 organization. RCF was founded in 2002 by Mass Media Mogul and Atlanta Native Ryan Cameron and has dedicated its existence to the youth in Metro Atlanta and surrounding communities. The mission is to provide resources and programs designed to encourage positive transitional growth for the area’s youth. The RCF hosts several annual events in which 100% of proceeds are invested into community organizations, social service initiatives, post-secondary education opportunities, and sustaining foundational efforts. Next weekend the organization will host it’s 6th Annual Health Fair and Family Fun Run and Walk. Over 1,000 Atlanta residents will receive free medical, dental and vision screenings, education, resources, mechanisms for change, and personalized physician consultations.
Since it’s inception, over 10,000 youth have been screened in the Health Fair over the past five years. The
6th Annual Healthy, Stronger, Living Longer Youth Health Fair will be held on November 2, 2013 from 11 am – 3 pm at The Gallery at South DeKalb. This year will feature a 1.2-mile Health Walk & Fun Run prior to the Health Fair. Registration starts at 8:00am. The Walk / Run begins at 9:00am.

Almost 40% or 1 million of Georgia’s children are overweight or obese. RCF’s goal is to combat Atlanta’s childhood obesity & diabetes by educating, screening, demonstrations, and providing resources to the community.
The screenings include: cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, BMI, medical, vision, dental, orthodontic, and physician’s consultation. Additionally, the Health Fair offers: fitness demonstrations, expert panel discussion, nutrition & mental health education, community resources, mechanisms for change, and effective health & wellness strategies. Upon completion of physician’s consultation attendees will receive an “in-home gym” – a jump rope, hula-hoop, and a portion control lunch box. Additionally, State Farm insurance representatives will lead an interactive Safe Teen Driving area with education, driving simulators, activities, and driving classes.
The 6th Annual Healthy, Stronger, Living Longer Health Fair is sponsored by Aetna Foundation, Atlanta West Primary Care Associates, Amerigroup, Children’s Healthcare at Hughes Spalding, Coca-Cola, Fulton-DeKalb Housing Authority, State Farm, and The Gallery at South DeKalb.
