The city of Starkville, MS announced that it was celebrating its Annual Travis Outlaw Day on August 24, 2013. This day was declared because of Outlaw’s accomplishments as a professional NBA player after being drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in 2003. He currently plays for the Sacramento Kings. Outlaw is a former Starkville High School graduate, homegrown Mississippian at heart; because of the love Starkville has shown him, he gives back to his community by having this annual occasion. This occasion marks Outlaw’s 10th year in the NBA league. “For all the support they have given me my whole career I just want to show I’m appreciative of it,” says Travis Outlaw.
This year was no different from the others …good food, great prizes, and yes, Travis Outlaw mingling with the community, family & friends. You were able to meet, greet and even snap a photo of Outlaw. In addition to the festive event, the city of Starkville also rewarded Outlaw’s contributions to the city, by dedicating one of the community Sportsplex’s main facilities in his honor. “What you put into something is what you get out of it. I’m really appreciative I’m grateful and I try to do what I can to give back,” says Outlaw. At the end of the event, Outlaw contributed a donation to the Starkville Boys and Girls Club, where he was joined on stage with some of the youth. The club also presented Outlaw with a plaque for his giving contributions for over eight years and being a staple in the community.
Never forgetting where he came from and always remembering where he is going. Starkville loves Outlaw and you better believe Outlaw loves his hometown. We love it, way to give back Travis! Check out some of the photos from the event below!
