Snoop Youth Football League Chicago Provides Medical Coverage & Sports Medicine Internships for Chicago Youth!

The physicians of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) are proud to provide the same expert care given to Chicago’s professional athletes to the young athletes of Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL), football and cheerleading programs. Dr. Joshua Blomgren, Internal Sports Medicine physician at MOR will serve as head physician to the league. As a member of the Chicago Sports Concussion Clinic at Rush and having had extensive training in Sports Medicine, Dr. Blomgren understands the importance of proper care to keep athletes playing at the best of their ability. Dr. Blomgren will also serve on the advisory board of the league, assisting in any medically related decisions for the athletes.

SYFL is also partnered with Xenith helmets in order to provide proper concussion prevention equipment and education for both athletes and coaches.

In addition to providing medical coverage to the Snoop Youth Football League athletes (ages 7-14) the physicians of MOR will also volunteer as mentors within the scholastic arm of the league. SYFL student athletes, who perform well academically, will be invited to join the physicians and staff of MOR to participate in the SYFL Chicago Sports Medicine internships where they experience the day to day job duties of sports medicine professionals.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to give inner city youth exposure to the best medical care possible while at the same time opening their minds to the various career options within the sports industry. SYFL is committed to developing student athletes,” said Tonja Styles, President of SYFL Chicago.

The Snoop Youth Football League began in 2004 in Los Angeles at the hands of hip hop icon Snoop Dogg. The Chicago division was established as a direct response to the rise in youth violence in the Chicago area and opens the 2011 season in August with seven chapters servicing Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Little Village, Bridgeport, Cabrini Green, the west, south and north sides of the city.
