Trayvon Martin’s Murder Sparks a Momentous Movement!

Today marks the one month anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin, a 17 year-old teenage boy, guilty of being only one thing, black.
As Spike Lee said best “America The Beautiful, A Country Where A Black Teenager Can Be Shot And Killed Coming From A 7-Eleven Buying A Ice Tea And A Bag Of Skittles.” Even though we can’t believe it, yes it happened and the lack of response of the Sanford police and district attorney, has caused countless celebrities, Twitter and Facebook accounts matched with rallies across the country all screaming justice for Trayvon!

I love to see a movement like this, truth be told instances surrounding the murder of Trayvon Martin happen all too often. The support of celebrities has been at an all -time high, among the many stars include: Spike Lee, Diddy, Will Smith, Amare Stoudamire, Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle UnionDwayne Wade, Lebron James, Ludacris, Will Ferral, Wyclef Jean, and John Legend. BCG Celebrity Giver of the Year winner Holly Robinson Peete tweeted: “Had a terrible dream last night. My son was walking home from Starbucks (on a run for me) it’s raining, hoodie up-but he never makes it home.”

TV One reported that Taraji P. Henson has been very vocal about the case and expressed worries about her own son, writing on her Twitter page: “When I think about #TrayvonMartin I can not help but worry about my own son! I am so sad and angry right now! Have been all day actually. And what kind of MONSTER can look into the eyes of a child begging for his life and still shoot him in cold blood! #Icramtounderstand. JUSTICE NOW #TrayvonMartin. I gotta get outta here. This is a hard 1 for me……*real tears*”

“If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” President Barack Obama said at the White House Friday.

Over the weekend we saw several tweets stating that there was a brand new Trayvon Martin Foundation.  As of this post we were unable to verify a true foundation that has been set up for Trayvon which is set to fight racism. As you know foundations often take time to form and as soon we get the information we’ll be sure to share. BCG was able to site a WePay donation page which has raised nearly $15,000.

Over the weekend thousands of Americans participated in the Millions Hoodie March across the nation, symbolic  to show that Trayvon Martin can be anyone of use mistaken of conducting illegal activity. High school students formed protests and walked out of school, churches collected skittles which are to be mailed to the DA’s office to represent the skittles Trayvon was carrying when he was shot. Millions are donating tweets, wearing t-shirts and more to give back and speak up in honor of this senseless tragedy.

The international petition which sparked this outrage not to mention the  scores of celebrity tweets have moved the U.S. Justice Department, the FBI, and the Florida state attorney’s office to each open up an investigation into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watchman who was released without arrest after claiming public arrest.
