To whom much is given, much is expected. I was fortunate enough to read over scholarship applications from some of the brightest and most active student’s in the city. This will be by far one of the funnest events. This embodies what it means to give back to your community. One of the finest groups of young Black professionals puts on an event that will give scholarships to young kids that have earned them. They will also honor state representative and other organizations that have had positive impacts on the community.

A much-anticipated event of the Atlanta summer social season, Dream Catchers is your opportunity to help YP provide deserving students with funds for college. Join us at the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center: Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Dream Catchers scholarship fund.
Political Advocate Honoree: Georgia State Representative Yasmin Neal
Georgia State Representative Yasmin Neal is the youngest member of the GA House of Representatives, elected at the age of 25. Rep. Neal is detective in the major felony unit of the Clayton County Police Department. She is also the founder of Clayton Rocks, a non-profit that engages and supports youth activities in the Clayton County area. Rep. Neal has sponsored several pieces of legislation in the past two years, but the most famous was HB 1116- the controversial Anti-Vasectomy Bill. It earned nationwide and international news. Rep. Neal’s courage in bringing forth this bill to show the double standard that continues to subjugate women to the will of unjust laws forced much-needed dialogue among voters, and their representatives.
Community Advocate Honoree: The Ron Clark Academy
Ron Clark founded The Ron Clark Academy, an inner-city school serving students from across metro Atlanta. The privately-funded institution is unique for its innovative teaching methods and curriculum based on his worldwide travel. Each year the students, grades 5 through 8, apply their in-class lessons to international adventures. And, by the time of graduation, each child will have visited six of the seven continents. Teachers from around the world visit the Academy to observe the innovative and “out-of-the-box” methods for achieving student success.
Corporate Advocate Honoree: Miller Coors
Miller Coors has made great strides in growing social responsibility in the African American community. By partnering with the 100 Black Men of Atlanta they have helped to grow the Project Success and robotics programs. Miller Coors has also honored both organization and individuals in the Atlanta community at the T.A.P. Awards for the past two years. Miller Lite and The Gidewon Foundation recognized businesses, organizations and individuals in the City of Atlanta that take strides in enhancing the African American space by inducting them into the Miller Lite “Goodness to Greatness” Hall of Fame.
Dream Catchers Award: Bert’s Big Adventure
Established in 2002, Bert’s Big Adventure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. To qualify for Bert’s Big Adventure, children must be between the ages of 5 and 12, live in “The Bert Show” radio listening area, prove financial need and have never been to Walt Disney World®. Following the annual trip, Bert’s Big Adventure provides year-round support through initiatives such as the Reunion Adventures, the Fairy Godparent volunteer program and additional charitable services. The trip and programs create a community of families that establish lasting friendships with others facing similar challenges.
