This month, Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Kaya Henderson launched Empowering Males of Color, an initiative aimed at improving the educational outcomes of Black and Latino boys. A key element of this $20 million initiative is the opening of an Urban Prep school in Washington, DC.
Urban Prep founder & CEO Urban Prep Tim King spoke at the initiative launch: “We couldn’t be more excited by the prospect of Urban Prep’s first school outside of Chicago being in our nation’s capital. After an extensive national review process of school districts for Urban Prep to expand to, it’s clear that DC is the right place. And The Empowering Males of Color initiative and the leadership of Chancellor Henderson demonstrate that this is the right time.”
The announcement was covered extensively by media. Click here for Urban Prep alumnus and Georgetown University sophomore David Peake’s ABC News interview about the initiative and Urban Prep’s expansion to Washington, DC.
