Walmart stores across the county have launched the second annual “12 Days of Giving” Campaign to benefit nonprofits.
The campaign calls on Facebook users to nominate nonprofits to receive a share a $1.5 million in grants to help them help their communities, according to a news release.
“There are so many local nonprofits making a positive impact every day and yet oftentimes we don’t hear enough about them or their needs. With this campaign, we want to recognize these organizations and the difference they are making in their communities,” Sylvia Mathews Burwell, president of the Walmart Foundation, said in the release. “This holiday season, we are asking and depending on consumers to tell us about the organizations in their communities who need our support. Together, we can help more people who need it most.”
Each of the “12 Days” will focus on a different giving theme, including hunger, military assistance and disaster relief.
Nominations will be accepted through Nov. 18 at the Live Better tab on Walmart’s Facebook.
Each 200-word nomination should describe the nonprofit and its impact in the community. Also, photos can be submitted that illustrate how the nonprofit helps families make ends meet, according to the release.
A Walmart panel will review submissions and select the winners. Grant recipients will be announced daily on Facebook and Twitter from Dec. 10 to Dec. 21.
