The Black Celebrity Giving BCG Awards give me so much excitement, it’s somewhat contagious. When I created the BCG Awards in 2011, I saw it as a way to truly honor the giving back that is taking place in our communities everyday. The BCG Awards are unique, in that we honor all aspects of giving in our communities, from the celebrity to the giving circle to the corporations that help further our efforts, we pay homage to Giving Back. Now entering it’s third year, we are ecstatic to see and read the nominations, because we know some good has been going on.
As someone who has worked in and with nonprofits for many years, I know that there is no work like that of giving. We all are fighting for a cause that we hope will lead to one final result, that of Social Change. Knowing that what we have done in this lifetime was not only our purpose, but that our life mattered, we’re planting seeds and we will one day see them grow. The BCG Awards give us a chance to celebrate the nonprofit down the street, that started with a vision from the heart, the people who do it for a cause and not for applause. It is so very important that we all applaud the efforts of not only our finalists but all of the nearly 1200 nominations for outstanding work across this country, we received. On behalf of the BCG team and all of our supporters, I encourage you to submit your nomination for someone you know doing good in the community. We have 11 categories this year and over $5,000 in grants and prizes for our 2013-2014 winners.
To submit your nomination click here and please be sure to cast your vote for our finalists beginning New Years Day, who will be announced on January 20th in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service when we announce the winner via Twitter and a Live Google + Hangout!
Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you. ~Mother Teresa
